What's New in Power Armour?

I ended up with a PDF of the new Space Marine Codex. However, I had to promise not to disseminate any information about it until the official preorder date (8/31). Since it's now...a bit after midnight on the requisite date, I thought I'd solidify some rumors.

Changes in my Eldar Army: The Motorpool

Greeting Gentlereaders,

Today, we get to talk about one of the most important parts of knowing how to fight against the Eldar menace.  Today is the motor pool section to wrap up my discussion of how I will be trying to transition my army into a 6th edition codex.  While there were the heretical few who played Eldar on foot last edition I was one of those who played mechanized Eldar because they moved faster than my Tau.  Let's get down to discussing the three vehicles I have experience with .

Hobby Table VI

Greetings and welcome to another Hobby Table.  Looking back on this series, I introduced it as being one that would fall on a number of topics pertaining to the hobby that didn't just revolve around the game itself.  We all know that at the end of the day, much of Warhammer 40,000 is about the stat lines, the dice, and the missions.  But there is so much more to this game than simply how a game pans out.  There's a story to it as well.

While almost every Hobby Table has been about trying to create innovative or unique mission types, I wanted to delve into something a bit more towards the idea of storytelling.  After all, if this game didn't have such an intricate and well developed lore behind it, there wouldn't be much more to it then an expensive game of chess.  Recently a fair number of us got together to simply put models on the table and throw some dice.  I am going to take that game, and establish a developed piece of lore for this engagement.  So lets jump right into it.

GenCon 2013: Godfrey's Reivew

The End of the year is Nigh.  The Harbinger of summer's end and the coming of the cold, northern winter winds that year's end brings has come and gone.  Yes, it was a time of celebration for those who dwell in the deep caves of game stores and basements, and gather above ground in the circle of Indianapolis for the annual meeting of GenCon.  Yes, here at the end of 2013, we have taken our yearly pilgrimage to the holy land of gamers in the midwest, and with it several stories and tales of our experiences from within.  So with this, comes the first tale of two bards who have returned from this land...  A Tale of Two Gamers.

Let's Be Friends! - Chaos Daemons

In my last article, I promised you guys that I'd be hard at it this week. Luckily for me, there's a few armies with "small" matrices, and one of these is Chaos Daemons. And boy, is their matrix a quickie. Evidently nobody likes these guys. Evidently, these guys are the baddest of the bad, since not even most of the traditional "disorder" races really get along with concentrated evil mixed with cannot be. The only people who can get along with them, worship them as gods. Traitor guard is yellow with them, seeming to show that though they are capable servants, all those tanks get in the way of fully committing to the darkest servitude. Chaos space marines are all buddy buddy with them as brothers in arms, but even that is a dubious term, given that Daemonic Instability prevents too much cooperation between villains. Nevertheless, Daemons do have allies, and good ones at that. So, without further ado, let us call upon the ruinous powers.

Changes in my Eldar Army: Path of the Warrior

Greetings Gentlereaders,

Today we're talking about the parts of my army that were and still are part of the most competitive builds in Eldar armies, the aspects in transports.  Looking at points only, these units have all increased in price, but I don't think anyone should be arguing that either they didn't improve or that they the points increase wasn't warranted.

My troops in fifth were dire avengers (DA) flying around in serpents.  While that was the troop eldar players ran, most of them only ran five man squads so they could buy the serpent, a tactic called DAVU, I wanted to run full squads so I could use them to hammer a target then mount up and fly away.  DAs have shifted to more of a midfield 'grinder' unit than the shoot and scoot unit they used to be in part because their exarchs aren't as necessary as they used to be, but are fantastic duelists.   Details after the break

Let's Be Friends! - Blood Angels

Hey guys, Corvus here to warn you of a whirlwind week in blogging for me! I owe you guys something in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 weeks worth of Friends articles (all forthcoming this week), as well as a GenCon breakdown. Also this week, I'm hoping to have a space marine rumor dissection in advance of the White Dwarf release.  Likewise, as soon as we have the space marine codex, we will be bringing you our next podcast! So, with those pleasantries and apologies out of the way, I bring you the Blood Angels allies matrix!

Changes in my Eldar Army: Path of the Witch

Greetings Gentlereaders,

Today I was just hoping to talk to you for a bit about what I think will be changing in my Eldar army now that I actually have a copy of the codex.  Also, first post from lovely Arlington, VA.

The heart and soul of my army has been the seer council, which I tried to make work in 5th edition, but it never worked out well when I was playing against Daemonhunting Templar and BA with FNP.  While their witchblades got hit when dealing with vehicles, but the new codex made the unit much more prominent in terms of time and a more variable threat both as a hammer unit and as a support unit.  I can't think of any other unit that both exemplifies an aspect of their army and forces you and the opponent to deal with a unit that changes what type of threat it is after the list building phase.

Into the Black Library - Yarrick: Chains of Golgatha

Well, After finishing my most recent dive into the Black Library in a single sitting, I can come to you now with my thoughts and feelings on one of the few novels that features Commissar Sebastian Yarrick.  He has always been one of my favorites amongst the Imperial Guard, and this read gave me great insight into him as a man, and how he lives with the legend he has created for himself.  And he doesn't disappoint.

Inside Look: The Wraithknight

Hey Folk, And welcome to another Inside Look.  It's a little behind, But having had a chance to put one of these together, I've had a good look at the model, and how it comes to you in the box.

Three sprues of highly detailed awesome.  I can say there are quite a few pro's to this kit; but as with most anything, it is not without its cons to be sure.   Especially give the increased quality of the recent "big kits" Games Workshop has been producing since 6th dropped.  But there is a reason this kit was chosen as my pick for an inside look.

The FOC and Army Design

Greetings gentlereaders,

How many of you remember playing against Dragowing and Loganwing in fifth edition.  I'm sure if you were the one playing those armies to win tournaments, those were satisfying armies.  For the rest of us, those armies were oppressive to play against.  I know my coauthors have no love for those types of armies, but I would like to propose that the fault, dear readers, is not in our codices, but in our FOC.

Bonus Podcast - Marines

Here it is, the bonus podcast we here at rites have promised to make up for our long absence. Join Godfrey and I as we chat about our favorite topic, Space Marines! We've both written articles detailing the plight of the space marine, but now we have the ability to post an in depth discussion between the two of us about it. If there's any rules or taking points we missed, make sure to hit us up in the comments!
